Drivers must take a break after 4.5 hours of driving, lasting at least 45 minutes, or split into two breaks of 15 and 30 minutes. For total work time (driving + other work), drivers must take a break of at least 30 minutes after 6 hours of work.

A ferry or train ride can count as a long rest if the driver is not working during the trip. This means the driver can sleep or rest in the truck or cabin without performing any work tasks (like loading/unloading or administrative duties). In this case, the journey would count as regular rest time.

However, if the driver is engaged in any work during the trip, such as supervising the loading or unloading, the time spent on the ferry or train would not count as rest, and it would be considered working hours instead.

Counts as “Availability” if the driver is just waiting and not working, but counts as “Other Work” if the driver is performing tasks like unloading or handling paperwork.
